Insulin, Inflammation & Blood Sugar

There comes a point in midlife when you realize the old tricks just don’t work the same anymore.

The workouts that used to “fix everything.”
The skipped meals.
The extra cardio.
The “I’ll start Monday” mentality.

Suddenly your energy crashes harder.
The weight hangs on longer.
Your sleep feels off.
Your cravings feel louder.
And no matter how hard you push… your body feels like it’s fighting back instead of working with you.

If you watched our recent Midlife & Metabolism series, especially Part 4, you know we talked a lot about something many women overlook:

It’s not just calories.
It’s communication.

Your body is constantly sending messages through hormones, blood sugar, inflammation levels, stress signals, and recovery patterns. And in midlife? Those messages can get noisy fast.

The Blood Sugar Rollercoaster Nobody Warned Us About

One of the biggest things I’ve learned lately is how much blood sugar affects everything.

Not just diabetes.
Not just weight.

Everything.

Energy.
Mood.
Cravings.
Brain fog.
Sleep.
Inflammation.
Hormones.
Even motivation.

When our blood sugar spikes quickly and crashes hard, our body often responds with stress hormones and inflammation. Over time, those constant highs and lows can leave us feeling exhausted, puffy, hungry, irritable, and frustrated.

And honestly?
A lot of women are trying to “fix” an energy problem with caffeine… when it may actually be a blood sugar stability problem.

That hit me hard.

Midlife Inflammation Is Sneaky

Inflammation in midlife doesn’t always show up dramatically.

Sometimes it looks like:

  • Waking up tired even after sleeping
  • Feeling swollen or puffy
  • Joint discomfort
  • Crashing in the afternoon
  • Stubborn belly weight
  • Increased cravings
  • Brain fog
  • Feeling “off” but not knowing why

Our bodies become more sensitive to stress, poor recovery, lack of muscle support, under-eating protein, and blood sugar swings.

That’s why in our series we kept coming back to simple foundational habits:

  • Prioritizing protein
  • Strength training
  • Walking after meals
  • Supporting sleep
  • Eating balanced meals
  • Reducing overwhelm instead of adding more pressure

Not punishment.
Support.

That’s a huge mindset shift.

The Shift I’m Personally Making

Over the last year, I’ve been very honest about feeling frustrated with my own energy, stress levels, and the feeling that I was constantly pouring from an empty cup.

I love fitness.
I love self-care.
I love helping people.

But even with that passion, I knew something deeper needed attention.

That’s part of why I started becoming curious about wellness support that works with the body instead of against it.

Recently, I started exploring Perga and their Core 4 system as part of my own journey.

And no… this isn’t me saying I’ve magically figured everything out overnight.

This is me saying I’m paying closer attention.

To my energy.
To recovery.
To gut health.
To inflammation.
To how I actually feel day to day.

What intrigued me most wasn’t hype or quick fixes.

It was the idea of supporting the body at the foundational level — brain, gut, metabolism, inflammation, energy production — instead of chasing symptoms one at a time.

That conversation felt different to me.

More educational.
More intentional.
More sustainable.

And honestly? That aligns with the direction I want my health journey to go.

This Isn’t About Perfection

One thing I hope women hear clearly from me:

You do not need to overhaul your entire life overnight.

Sometimes the biggest transformation starts with:

  • Adding protein to breakfast
  • Going for a 10-minute walk
  • Lifting weights twice a week
  • Drinking more water
  • Paying attention to energy patterns
  • Supporting your body instead of constantly fighting it

Small things stack.

And I think many of us are entering a season where we’re less interested in extremes… and more interested in longevity, strength, energy, and feeling good again.

That’s the journey I’m on right now.

Not chasing skinny.
Not chasing exhaustion.
Not punishing myself into burnout.

Just learning how to support my body better in this season of life.

And as I continue sharing my experience with Perga and the Core 4 system, I want this space to stay honest, educational, and real.

No pressure.
No perfection.
Just learning together.

Want to Follow Along?

Over the next few months, I’ll be sharing more of my personal experience, what I’m learning about midlife metabolism, blood sugar, inflammation, energy, and the small changes I’m making along the way.

If that sounds like something you’re navigating too… I’d love to have you here for the journey.
