How to Build a Sustainable Wellness Routine for Strength, Energy and Self-Care

What If You Don’t Need Another Restart?

Every new month seems to bring another opportunity to “start over.”

A new diet.

A new workout.

A new supplement.

A new challenge.

A new morning routine that somehow requires getting up at 4:37 AM and becoming a completely different human. 😂

But what if the goal isn’t to constantly start over?

What if the goal is to build a foundation you can actually keep?

That is the idea I keep coming back to in my own life—and it is a huge part of why I created ROOTED.

I’m much less interested in perfection than I am in creating routines that help us feel stronger, healthier and more grounded in our everyday lives.

Because wellness should support your life.

Your life shouldn’t have to revolve around maintaining your wellness routine.

Start With Your Foundation

When people think about improving their health, it can be tempting to jump immediately to the newest or most complicated strategy.

But I believe there is tremendous value in first looking at the basics.

Are you moving your body?

Are you building and maintaining strength?

Are you getting enough protein and nourishing foods?

Are you drinking water?

Are you sleeping?

Are you giving your body an opportunity to recover?

Are you supporting your spiritual health too?

Those habits may not feel exciting, but they create the foundation everything else sits on.

1. Build Strength for the Life You Want to Live

I have loved fitness for most of my life, but the reason I train has changed over the years.

Today, strength means much more to me than how much weight I can lift.

I want to be able to keep moving.

Travel.

Run.

Bike.

Carry things.

Play.

Take care of myself.

Stay active as I get older.

Strength training can be an important part of supporting muscle, bone health, physical function and our ability to continue doing everyday activities as we age.

You don’t need to train like a competitive athlete.

You simply need to begin where you are and gradually build.

Two or three consistent strength sessions can be far more valuable than an extreme program you abandon after three weeks.

2. Give Your Body Something to Build With

You cannot ask your body to continually perform while giving it very little support.

This is where nutrition becomes part of the conversation.

Protein is especially important when we are strength training because our bodies need amino acids to repair and maintain muscle.

Whole foods, hydration and adequate nutrients matter too.

I like to think about food differently than I did when I was younger.

Instead of constantly asking:

“How little can I eat?”

I would rather ask:

“What does my body need to do what I am asking it to do?”

That shift alone can completely change the way we approach nutrition.

3. Foundational Wellness Happens on the Inside Too

This is also where my personal experience with Perga has become part of my routine.

I use the Core 4 alongside—not instead of—the basics.

My workouts still matter.

Nutrition matters.

Sleep matters.

Stress management matters.

Consistency matters.

But after months of using Core 4 consistently, I personally began noticing changes in areas such as my energy, digestion, focus, recovery and how I felt day to day.

Those are personal experiences, not promises about what someone else will experience.

What I appreciate most is that it has encouraged me to think more intentionally about foundational wellness rather than constantly chasing quick fixes.

When we support our bodies well, we give ourselves a better opportunity to show up for everything else in our lives..

4. Recovery Is Part of the Program

This may be one of the hardest lessons for people who love fitness.

More is not always better.

Our bodies need stress in order to adapt—but they also need recovery.

That means sleep.

Rest days.

Mobility.

Adequate nutrition.

Hydration.

Lower-intensity movement.

And sometimes simply admitting:

“I am tired and today my body needs something different.”

Recovery isn’t laziness.

It is part of training.

And I would go one step further:

Recovery is part of stewardship.

If we believe our bodies are gifts from God, caring for them includes knowing when to work and when to rest.

5. Self-Care Can Be Simple

Self-care has also become much simpler for me.

It doesn’t need to mean spending an entire day at a spa.

Sometimes it looks like:

Taking a walk.

Closing the laptop.

Reading Scripture.

Stretching.

Taking a warm shower.

Using a favorite Posh body product.

Putting your phone away.

Going to bed on time.

Saying no.

Self-care isn’t escaping your life.

Done well, it helps you return to your life feeling a little more supported.

That is one reason I still love sharing Perfectly Posh.

For me, it represents the fun, outside part of caring for myself—the small rituals that remind us we deserve a few minutes too.

6. Don’t Forget Your Spiritual Foundation

This is the piece that holds everything else together for me.

I can eat perfectly.

Train consistently.

Take every supplement.

Have a beautiful self-care routine.

And still feel completely ungrounded if I am neglecting my relationship with God.

That is why Scripture and prayer are foundations inside ROOTED.

Not another box to check.

A place to return.

A reminder that our worth is not measured by our productivity, our body composition, how many workouts we completed or how perfectly we followed a routine.

Health is something we steward.

It isn’t something we worship.

A Better Question to Ask

Instead of asking:

“What do I need to change about myself?”

Try asking:

“What foundation could I strengthen?”

Maybe it’s your faith.

Maybe it’s strength training.

Maybe you need to eat more protein.

Maybe your body is begging you to sleep.

Maybe you need support with your foundational wellness.

Maybe you simply need ten quiet minutes at the end of the day.

Choose one.

Work on it.

Then allow those small choices to become part of the way you live.

Because the routines that change our lives usually aren’t the dramatic ones we do for a few weeks.

They’re the simple things we continue doing when nobody is watching.

Keep It Simple. Keep Showing Up.

That is what I hope October reminds all of us.

We do not need another month of chasing perfection.

We need strong roots.

Faith.

Movement.

Nourishment.

Recovery.

Self-care.

Community.

And enough grace to begin again tomorrow when today doesn’t go exactly as planned.

Your body is a gift.

Your life is a gift.

Steward them well. 🌿
